The 7 Best French Door Refrigerator Models for 2024

Posted by Jeff Allaire on Dec 22, 2023 12:00 PM

The French door refrigerator flips the traditional top freezer model and makes the refrigerator into a two-door design. The result? Tons of usable shelf space, less area needed for the doors to swing open than a single-door refrigerator, lots of door bins, and a lot of features… but that’s far from all of it! You get wider shelves than a side-by-side refrigerator and easier access to refrigerated items without bending over like with a top freezer model. (For more info on choosing a new refrigerator, check out our refrigerator buying guide!)

If you’re planning on upgrading your refrigerator for 2024 and considering a French door model, we’ve compiled a list of seven of the best French door refrigerator models of the year. Speed Queen's Normal Eco Cycle: Everything You Need to Know

Posted by Jeff Allaire on Nov 3, 2023 12:54 AM

Speed Queen is known for their commitment to quality and durability. They are so confident in their products that they back them up with the longest manufacturer’s warranty in the industry. Many people particularly love classic features like powerful agitation and their Deep Fill wash option that uses more water, but Speed Queen washers have traditionally been less energy-efficient than other brands.

In recent years, Speed Queen continued to develop their product lines to face the challenge, and they did this by releasing new top load laundry models with some changes to reach the standards of the Department of Energy. They introduced the Normal Eco Cycle, which claims to save water and energy while still providing deep clean for your everyday clothes.

Need A Refrigerator With No Freezer? - Reviews, Features, Prices

Posted by Bob Allaire on Mar 2, 2023 9:30 AM

Certain specialty applications call for specialty products. Refrigerators are no different: refrigerators with no freezers, also called "all-refrigerators" or "freezerless refrigerators" may come in compact forms to be installed in offices, pool houses, or where a second refrigerator is needed. Others are intended to replace built-in refrigerators for a high-end look. They range from basic to luxurious, mini to full-size, and there are a lot of options. Here are a few types of all-refrigerators:

  • Twin Refrigerators or Column Refrigerators: A high-end type of refrigerator with no freezer, usually with a built-in look. They feature a single door and can be paired with a matching column freezer for a custom side by side look, or separated for convenience in a high-end kitchen. They may be panel-ready, built-in, or integrated (read more about built in and integrated refrigerators here). Frigidaire offers freestanding options that look built in but are a lot cheaper.

  • Freestanding All Refrigerators: These models are useful for apartments, dorm rooms, offices, and other settings. They can be compact at 11 cubic feet or less, or up to 19 cubic feet or so.

  • Beverage Centers/Wine Coolers: These refrigerators are specifically designed for storing beer, soda, wine, and other beverages. They're a great addition to any home bar! They usually have clear glass doors and can be freestanding or built-in models that can be installed under counters. (We reviewed beverage coolers here.)

Refrigerator with Drawers - Designs, Reviews, & Pricing

Posted by Meredith Czymmek on Jan 30, 2023 8:30 AM

Several manufacturers make refrigerators with drawers, and they come in a few different flavors. These models are sometimes referred to as four door refrigerators, but that can be confusing since... well... most of the time, we're dealing with an extra drawer, not an extra door! The most popular style (which our four door article linked above focuses on) is an additional drawer between the fresh and frozen compartments, usually with adjustable temperature controls. However, LG recently came out with a surprisingly affordable dual freezer drawer refrigerator we'll review below, and we'll also explore other brands like KitchenAid's dual drawers.

Top Load Dryer vs Front Load - What is a Front Load Dryer?

Posted by Todd Buehler on Aug 18, 2022 8:30 AM

Researching a new dryer can be easy if you know the right questions to ask. One of the topics you may be pondering is the difference between a top load dryer vs front load (find out more about dryers in our Dryer Buying Guide).

Virtually, all dryers load from the front, so what do we mean by a front loading dryer? This is a dryer that is meant to aesthetically match the appearance of a front loading washer, with the controls in the front and matching cosmetic details. These dryers usually have the option of being stacked on top of the washer, but it is not a requirement (check out our review of a Maytag stackable washer dryer pair to explore this option). They can also be placed on optional pedestal bases to raise them to a more convenient height. Most consumers who already have or are planning to purchase a front loading washer will want to plan on matching it with a front loading dryer.

Panel Ready Dishwashers - Are They a Good Option?

Posted by Todd Buehler on Aug 15, 2022 11:00 AM

NOTE: Since we no longer sell the Fisher & Paykel brand, we will not be updating the Fisher & Paykel product reviewed here as of November 2021. You can view Fisher Paykel's current lineup of dishwashers by clicking here.

If you are designing a new kitchen and want to achieve a modern and professional style, you may want to consider a panel ready dishwasher, also known as an overlay dishwasher. This style allows you to have your cabinetmaker design a panel for the front of your dishwasher which will match the doors on your kitchen cabinets and install a matching handle. These models are designed to hold the custom panel's weight and add a nice look to the kitchen. They may pair well with a panel ready refrigerator and help you achieve that integrated high-end look you desire.

There are many other factors to consider when researching a dishwasher, but if looks are a top concern, a panel ready model may be what you need. For more information to help you choose a new dishwasher, check out our dishwasher buying guide!

Posted by Bob Allaire on Aug 3, 2022 9:30 AM

If you are in the market for a new washer, you are probably trying to learn about every style and option available to you. One option worth exploring would be the modern machines with a washing machine impeller versus an agitator. You can check out our washing machine buying guide for even more information!

These new high-efficiency top load washers do not have the traditional agitator in the tub. The agitator has been replaced with an impeller device that is designed to move the clothes to the bottom of the tub and do the washing. The impeller is like a very short, flat agitator in a cone shape. The beauty of it is that it opens up a ton of space in the tub for extra washing.

Many people looking for a new dishwasher have been interested in information about how KitchenAid's dishwashers compare with Bosch models. These two well-known dishwasher brands both offer great value to the customer. Bosch has a reputation for being among the quietest, most reliable brands. KitchenAid is one of the top brand names in the appliance industry and has a reputation for offering the highest quality appliances to the consumer.

These two brands offer dishwashers that are very different in design and styling, and each offer some unique features. Be sure to include these brands as you research new dishwashers for your kitchen. Generally, when people are comparing Bosch vs KitchenAid dishwashers, they are looking for a mid-range to high-end model. If you are looking to spend less than ~$700, that leaves KitchenAid out since KitchenAid's least expensive model is around $999 (although during certain sales and promotions it could be closer to $700). Bosch Dishwasher Reviews – Should You Consider a Bosch?

Posted by Alex Frank on Jul 11, 2022 8:00 AM

For years, Bosch dishwashers have held a powerful presence in the appliance market since they began to focus on creating quieter dishwashers. With legendary German engineering behind their products, consumers associate the brand with high quality and performance. And for good reason - all of their dishwashers go through 485 quality checks before leaving the factory to ensure that the products are working properly, and they're "the quietest dishwasher brand in the US!" Most Bosch dishwashers for the US are made in North Carolina, although their Benchmark series is made in Germany.

They have a large array of dishwashers available, and while looking at every one of them would be a daunting task, we will look at a few of their most popular models in this article so that you can get a good idea of what this brand has to offer and the different features available. We’ll start with one of Bosch’s more basic dishwashers from the Ascenta/100 series and go on up to the 800 series.

Before we dig into the reviews, we'll go over what cool features are available from the over 100 dishwashers Bosch offers, and what the different lineups have to offer.

Maytag vs Speed Queen Commercial Grade Washers - Reviews, Features, Prices

Posted by Bob Allaire on Apr 20, 2022 11:00 AM

Washing machines have changed considerably with all of the new energy requirements, and many have become very complicated. Longer wash times and lower water usage have definitely changed the way we do our laundry, and new laundry appliances seem to require more service than older models, especially if the operator uses too much soap or does too many over-sized batches.

Customers are looking for options before they purchase - they want to cut down on service calls and are seeking simpler operation. If you are looking for the best rated top load washer with these features, you should definitely consider Speed Queen and Maytag commercial washers.

Large Capacity Dryer - Who Has the Largest?

Posted by Todd Buehler on Apr 20, 2022 9:30 AM

Researching a new dryer can be an involved process. There are many factors to consider, and size is one of the most important ones. Dryer sizes are wide-ranging, but if you have a large family or heavy laundry needs for some other reason, you may be looking for the manufacturer with the largest dryer capacity on the market. Look no further! (Or, if you want to look further: check out our dryer buying guide for more info on choosing a new dryer!)

We've analyzed large capacity dryer options across manufacturers and found two behemoths that may be just what you are looking for. The overall largest dryer on the market right now comes from LG with a 9.0 cubic foot front load style model. Whirlpool is a close second with a 8.8 cubic foot top load style model (learn more about front load vs top load style dryers here). All dryers load from the front, but "front load style" dryers are designed to match a front load washer, usually with controls on the front of the machine and a windowed door, while "top load style" dryers have controls at the back of the machine and can't be stacked.

Let's explore these highly rated top-of-the-line models! Pay special attention to the dimensions if you're buying extra large washers and dryers because they can be a few inches larger in width and depth than standard size models. Make sure they will fit through your doorways and in your laundry space!

Samsung Flex Duo - Everything You Need to Know!

Posted by Meredith Czymmek on Apr 20, 2022 9:00 AM

A double oven range can be a great way to boost your cooking options: splitting the oven cavity in two means you can cook two dishes at different temperatures simultaneously. A roast for dinner and cookies for dessert? Yes, please!

However, there are a few downsides to the double oven range style: the lower oven is usually the larger one, but it's closer to the floor so you have to bend or squat to get to it. Sometimes the oven space is divided about half and half, while in others there is a smaller upper oven and a larger lower oven. The Samsung Flex Duo system aims to give you the best of both worlds by making it easy to convert your range from a double to a single oven whenever you want.

Garage Ready Freezer - Best Chest Freezer Models

Posted by Jeff Allaire on Apr 13, 2022 9:30 AM

So you're looking for a garage ready chest freezer. Options are limited, and it can get confusing when you're trying to research your options online - a freezer may get tagged as a "garage ready" model by a website simply because people have left reviews stating that they have installed it in a garage. In mild climates where the temperature never gets much below 40 degrees, you don't technically need a garage ready model, although installing an "indoor" freezer in a garage could void the warranty.

If you live in the northeast US or other areas with freezing winters, you'll need to check that the freezer you choose can handle below-freezing temperatures.

Best Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator - Frigidaire Professional vs KitchenAid

Posted by Todd Buehler on Apr 1, 2022 8:00 AM

Counter depth refrigerators are an easy way to take the style of your kitchen to the next level. They're typically 36" wide and about 70" tall with a total depth of 28-31" including the handles, so they won't stick out past your countertops. In many remodeled kitchens, center islands are installed which carry a dishwasher, slide-in range or wall oven and cook top, while leaving the refrigerator on the out-skirting walls. With a full-depth refrigerator, you will find that there is not enough elbow room to walk between the island and refrigerator. This is a perfect opportunity for a counter depth model. It doesn't stick out, giving you more room in your kitchen and it gives you that clean modern finished look. You can read more about these models in our article on counter depth refrigerators

Side Venting Dryer - Need a Good Side Venting Option?

Posted by Todd Buehler on Mar 16, 2022 8:30 AM

There are several important questions to consider when doing your research on a new dryer. How it will vent is one of them. Depending on the configuration of your laundry room or closet, you may find that you need a good side venting option.

Standard dryer installation calls for rear venting, but due to space limitations or configuration, you may need to look for a model that allows side venting. Not all models do! It's important to bring this up with your local appliance salesperson because different brands and models have different restrictions for the options to install side venting. For example, you may only be able to side vent on one side of the dryer - most gas dryers can only be side vented to the left because of the burner housing. Dryers with "four-way venting" usually will allow you to install a side vent on either side.

Quiet Washing Machine - How to Find a Quiet Model

Posted by Meredith Czymmek on Dec 22, 2021 9:00 AM

More and more, consumers are interested in finding appliances with quiet operation. Noisy refrigerators, dishwashers, and laundry appliances can be especially intrusive in apartments, or homes with open floor plans. If you have a second-floor laundry room or laundry closet, a quiet washing machine might be crucial for your sanity!

Normal sounds in new washing machines include clicking and humming, gurgling or running water sounds as the washer fills and drains, and the sound of the basket spinning up and down in short or long bursts. One of the major factors tied to noise reduction is vibration reduction - the two go hand in hand! Although it's unlikely that you'll find decibel levels for most washing machines (unlike with dishwashers, where there is plenty of competition to be the quietest dishwasher), there are several key features you can look for from different brands that will help you find quiet washing machine models.

The Best Side by Side Refrigerator Models (LG vs Whirlpool)

Posted by Jeff Allaire on Dec 22, 2021 7:30 AM

LG and Whirlpool didn't start out making refrigerators, but their side by side refrigerator offerings available today provide some great features that consumers love! Side by side refrigerators offer a unique setup where you can place your often used items in both the refrigerator and freezer conveniently at eye level rather than having to bend over to reach one or the other in a top or bottom freezer refrigerator model. A side by side refrigerator will usually require less space in front of it to fully open the doors. However, side by side refrigerators tend to be wider than comparable top freezer and bottom freezer models.

In this article, we compare two of the best side by side refrigerator models from these brands, with links to customer reviews and more. If you want to explore even more options, check out our complete reviews of the best side by side refrigerator models of the year!

Why Can't We Predict Appliance Reliability?

Posted by Meredith Czymmek on Dec 15, 2021 2:40 PM

If I had to guess what the number one issue is at the core of the questions, comments, and complaints I receive through this blog, it'd be reliability. Our mortgages, rents, health care costs, and even grocery costs have increased significantly over the past 30 years - more than can be explained by inflation alone - and wages have not kept up. So people want to know whether an appliance we reviewed will last, or why their appliance got top marks but broke down within 2-3 years.

And the fact that I can't answer that very legitimate question is a source of frustration for me.

If I can't answer the real question, I'd at least like to explain WHY I can't answer it. So, let's dig in: What are the barriers to predicting appliance reliability?

ADA Compliant Appliances - Reviews, Features, Prices

Posted by Todd Buehler on Oct 11, 2021 8:30 AM

Not everyone knows about the benefits of ADA compliant appliances and how they can make daily life with a physical disability just a little easier. We all depend on kitchen appliances to get a jumpstart on our day. Whether it's opening up the refrigerator for a glass of cold orange juice or using the range to pan-fry an egg, we often turn to our appliances first thing in the morning and throughout the day. One way or another, we rely on these major appliances in our everyday lives to simplify things - but for someone with disabilities, using standard appliances not designed with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accommodations can make appliances a lot less convenient - and, in some cases, dangerous.

Thankfully, there are brands that manufacture products designed for people with physical disabilities. Although they aren't the only factor to consider if you are building or renovating a home for accessibility, they're definitely important.

In this article, we'll take a look into a variety of ADA compliant appliances that can make a difference in the daily lives of so many of us. GE Appliances pops up quite often in this post - their website has a dedicated section for ADA compliant appliances.

If you are in the market for a new washer, you are probably trying to learn about every style and option available to you. One option worth exploring is top loading washers.

Top load washers offer a variety of tub sizes and offer a similar water and energy-saving story to that of front loaders. They load from the top so you don't have to bend over when loading and unloading the washer. This also eliminates the need for costly bases. Some don’t have agitators, giving you more room in the tub, allowing you to wash larger items such as quilts and bed spreads. What is a Built In Refrigerator? - Reviews, Features, Prices

Posted by Bob Allaire on Jul 22, 2021 9:00 AM

If you are remodeling a kitchen and going high end, you may be asking yourself: What is a built-in refrigerator? Is it a could choice? If you want that really modern, high-end commercial grade look, a built-in refrigerator may be exactly what you need.

Built-in refrigerators are made to be built into an opening in the kitchen cabinets, and they do not protrude from the cabinets. They do not have finished sides and the compressor is usually located on the top of the unit. These are available in larger sizes and are much pricier than freestanding refrigerators. They are usually purchased for very expensive homes along with other high-end appliances. (Before we continue: for more info on choosing a new refrigerator, check out our refrigerator buying guide!)

Heat Pump Dryers - Review of Compact Options & Full-Size Models

Posted by Jeff Allaire on Jun 30, 2021 12:00 PM

Ventless dryers are a go-to option for apartments, condos, and other living situations where outdoor venting isn't possible. In the US, we're used to seeing the steam outside of our window when the dryer is running, but in Europe, these ventless dryers are more common than vented dryers by a huge margin. If you're looking for a new ventless dryer for your home, one of the options to consider is heat pump dryers.

Heat pump dryers are a newer type of ventless dryer. In general, ventless dryers are more expensive than vented options. The two major types are condensation and heat pump dryers, and heat pump dryers are more costly up-front than condensation dryers. However, the operating costs are lower - half or more the cost per load of a traditional vented dryer in gas or electric

Posted by Todd Buehler on Jun 30, 2021 9:15 AM

If you think of your clothes dryer as being one of the simplest appliances in your home, think again. Most people think that it just turns a drum and blows heat, but there's quite a bit going on inside that big metal box! If you are in the process of researching a new dryer, you know there are many brands, models, and features to consider (you can check out our dryer buyer's guide for more info). We'll compare LG and Maytag to help you determine the best clothes dryer brand for you.

In order to compare the two models, we need to first look at some of the technology behind drying clothes. Clothes dryers have a variety of safety features to not only go easy on your clothes by preventing over-drying, but also keep your home safe if something malfunctions. The average system will have a temperature range of 80 to 190 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on selected cycles and settings. There are two main ways for a dryer to keep track of the drying progress: moisture sensors and thermistors.

It's a relief to exchange snow tires for regular tires, boots for sandals, and sweaters for short sleeves, isn't it? What No One Will Tell You About Appliance Warranty Service

Posted by Meredith Czymmek on May 6, 2021 11:24 AM

"I called a local repair company about this, and they said they no longer do warranty service for [manufacturer] because they don't pay enough."

I see phrases like this quite often in comments and product reviews. Usually, people are frustrated because they haven't been able to get timely warranty service on an appliance. If your relatively new washing machine has started leaking, or food is spoiling in your 6-month-old refrigerator, finding out that you'll need to wait 2 weeks or more to get it repaired is just adding insult to injury.

But I want to clarify how appliance warranty service actually works, and why it is the way it is.

The Speed Queen TC5 - Features & Comparison vs the TR5

Posted by Meredith Czymmek on Apr 21, 2021 9:00 AM

If you aren't deep in the laundry industry or a hardcore Speed Queen fan, you might have missed the controversy over Speed Queen's new top load models released in 2018. They had to make changes to meet energy efficiency requirements, and some of those changes involved the wash action of their top load models. This departure from what their fans were used to resulted in some backlash. Long story short, the new wash action is gentler overall, which is not necessarily a bad thing - but it wasn't ideal for some of Speed Queen's customer base. (Despite this controversy, as of this writing all of the TR series of washers have over 4.5 stars from customer ratings on their website.)

The TC5 is a return to tradition with a lot of the features that people loved about Speed Queen's 2017 and earlier washers. It was updated in 2021 from the TC5000WN to the TC5003WN.  We'll compare in-depth the differences between the TR5 model and the TC5 model below! Low Profile Microwave - Reviews, Ratings, Prices

Posted by Jeff Allaire on Feb 5, 2021 9:00 AM

Microwaves have historically come in two basic categories: standard over-the-range microwaves and countertop microwaves. Over-the-range microwaves are designed to fit nicely above your range and have standard 30" widths. Height-wise, they are typically between 16" and 18", and they generally offer a capacity in the 1.7 to 2.0 cubic foot range. Over-the-range microwaves are practically standard issue in most modern kitchens, and the cabinetry and layout in modern homes generally work well for these products.

Should You Buy a Frost Free Freezer? - Pros & Cons vs Manual Defrost

Posted by Bob Allaire on Feb 1, 2021 8:00 AM

If you are shopping for a new refrigerator, you may be wondering what a frost free refrigerator is. "Frost free" is a term that has been used in the refrigerator industry for decades. Terms like "automatic defrost," "frostless," or "no-frost" all refer to the same technology. Many older style refrigerators and some modern mini refrigerators and freezer-only units require manual defrost.

Frost buildup on the coils in the freezer can impair the unit's ability to keep things cool. It can prevent the door from sealing properly and give your frozen foods an unpleasant "freezer" flavor. Manual defrost freezers need to be cleaned out 1-2 times a year and allowed to sit for 2-3 hours so the frost can melt. This is not a chore that everyone enjoys... or will actually do!

Maytag vs Samsung Front Load Washer Comparison (Reviews, Ratings, Prices)

Posted by Bob Allaire on Jan 25, 2021 10:00 AM

Front load washers have become very popular in the US market since the early 2000s. Many consumers are drawn to these machines due to their large wash capacity and relatively low water usage. While top loading machines are making a resurgence in the market (in particular high efficiency impeller models), there is still a great deal of demand for front load machines. The cheapest front load washers start at around $700 to $900 before any promotional pricing or package deals kick in and come with advanced control panels and great wash options - so even these "entry level" models are high-quality.

If you are researching new washing machines, want to go with front load, and don't want to break the bank, you have options. Reputable manufacturers Samsung and Maytag both offer inexpensive front load washers priced under $900! Let's take a look at these two competing models in our Maytag vs Samsung front load washer comparison.

Bosch Refrigerator Reviews - 4 Top Models (Dual Compressors & More!)

Posted by Alex Frank on Jan 4, 2021 9:00 AM

Over the years, German engineering has become synonymous with the production of high-quality products. That’s why Bosch is one of the world’s largest suppliers of automotive parts in the world and a leader in making high-performance household appliances.

In 1933, Bosch came out with their first electric refrigerator. They've been making innovations in the appliance industry ever since! Bosch notably created what they called "Vita Fresh" technology in 1989, which substantially increased the length of time produce stayed fresh and crisp. They set standards in environmental manufacturing in the 1990s and, more recently, have created a line of connected appliances that can be controlled and monitored from your computer or smartphone.

In this post, we will review a few of Bosch’s current refrigerators and explore the differences and similarities between them.

Window Air Conditioner Reviews - Frigidaire vs Friedrich 8,000 BTU Models

Posted by Bob Allaire on Dec 29, 2021 9:15 AM

If you are searching for a new window AC unit, you should know that not all air conditioners are created equally. Window air conditioners have become a commodity in the appliance industry and are manufactured under many brand names. These branded air conditioners are available for purchase anywhere from the drugstore to the supermarket, with brand names that you either have never heard of or associate with some other product or industry. These brands usually have no service or parts support after the sale and are made to sell at a lower price with lower end features and quality.

However, there are alternatives to these "disposable" air conditioners: brands like Friedrich and Frigidaire. In our window air conditioner review below we will focus on these two great brands.

Garage Ready Freezer - Best Upright Models

Posted by Jeff Allaire on Dec 23, 2020 9:00 AM

So you're looking for a garage ready upright freezer. Options are limited, and it can get confusing when you're trying to research your options online - a freezer may get tagged as a "garage ready" model by a website or search engine simply because people have left reviews stating that they have installed it in a garage. In mild climates where the temperature never drops below 40 °F or rises above 90 °F or so, it's possible to grab any old freezer and stick it in the garage (although this tends to void the manufacturer's warranty). However, if you're contending with freezing winters, it's not so easy.

Casement Window Air Conditioners - Reviews & What to Look For

Posted by Jeff Allaire on Dec 7, 2020 11:45 AM

Crank out windows can be a bummer when the summer heat hits. Also referred to as "slider" windows and "casement" windows, the common window air conditioner won't work here. Typical window air conditioners are wider than they are tall, and they won't fit into a casement window. And unfortunately you can't just tip a normal AC unit on its side for use in a narrower window.

Dealing with crank out windows can definitely be a hassle. Even if a typical window air conditioner will fit into a slider window gap, you'll need to DIY a support system to keep it in place - and there are plenty of DIY projects online of people doing this!

There are a limited number of casement air conditioners available, so you'll have to compare the cost (both the upfront cost as well as the time and energy of installing it) against using a portable air conditioner instead! (For more information on ACs, check out our air conditioner buying guide.)

When is the Best Time to Buy Appliances?

Posted by Todd Buehler on Dec 4, 2020 9:00 AM

We often hear this question from customers: "When is the best time to buy appliances?" The answer is actually pretty simple - think holidays! National appliance sales are worth waiting for, as prices are discounted anywhere from 15% to 35% (and even up to 40% on some items).

If you have the luxury of planning your next appliance purchase, you may want to consider looking at appliances during one of the industry's holiday sale periods. But sometimes, you just can't wait for a holiday. If your refrigerator is not cooling or you are moving into a new home, you may not have the pleasure of marking your next appliance purchase on your calendar and waiting for a sale. However, if you do have time on your side, consider these holiday periods for the best deals.

Is a Stainless Steel Interior Dishwasher Worth the Price?

Posted by Todd Buehler on Dec 1, 2020 8:30 AM

When researching a new dishwasher, you have a lot to consider. Most people want good quality, durability, washing capability and, of course, they want their new dishwasher to be quiet (learn about dishwasher decibel levels in our article, or check out our dishwasher buying guide for more info on buying a new dishwasher).

One of the biggest contributors to how your dishwasher will perform in most of these areas is the materials used in construction, particularly of the interior. Dishwasher interiors and door liners are made of stainless steel or plastic and sometimes a mix of both materials. A stainless steel interior dishwasher is an option you should consider, although they tend to have a higher price. Because plastic is less expensive, it is usually found in lower-end dishwashers. Most manufacturers use plastic to make spray arms, silverware baskets, dishwasher racks, and other interior parts.

LG Linear Compressor Refrigerators - What Makes Them Different

Posted by Jeff Allaire on Oct 27, 2020 9:00 AM

Please note: The class action lawsuits against LG for linear compressor failures beginning in 2018 have resulted in some negative reactions to LG and the linear compressor, which we will respond to below.

LG has something unique to offer refrigerator buyers: the linear compressor. The compressor is an important piece to the system that moves warm air out of your refrigerator. It's more or less a "pump" designed for vapor rather than water, pushing the warm refrigerant vapor to the coils on the back of your refrigerator so the vapor can cool off and be cycled through your refrigerator again. You can think of this as your refrigerator removing warm air rather than "adding" coolness to the air.
