Every summer follows the same pattern. The first heat wave arrives, everyone turns on their air conditioning at once, and that is when the problems tend to show up.
A few minutes of simple maintenance can save you from discomfort and unexpected headaches later in the season. Here are three things you can check yourself, no tools required.
✅ Give It a Clean Start
Start with the air filter. A dirty filter restricts airflow, forces your system to work harder, and can drive up your energy costs. If it looks dusty or clogged, clean or replace it. It is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your unit.
✅ Check for Blockages
Keep the area around your unit clear. For a window unit, make sure nothing indoors is blocking the airflow and that the outside of the unit is free of leaves, debris, or anything crowding it. For a central system, keep at least two feet of open space around the outdoor unit and make sure your indoor vents are not blocked by furniture. Good airflow keeps everything running efficiently.
✅ Do a Pre Flight Test
Turn the system on for a few minutes on a cooler day. Listen for any unusual noises and make sure the air coming out feels cool and steady. If anything seems off, it is better to catch it early than to discover it on the hottest day of the year.
A little attention now goes a long way toward a cool, comfortable summer. And if your current setup just can't keep a room comfortable no matter what you try, we are happy to help you find a new AC.
