Largest Bottom Freezer Refrigerator of the Year

The bottom freezer refrigerator is a welcome relief from bending over to access the fresh food section and carefully maintaining piles of frozen items in a top freezer refrigerator. If you have a lot of mouths to feed, you're probably looking for the largest bottom freezer refrigerator you can find - and we're here to help! Bottom freezers are also a great option for narrower spaces since there are many options that are 33" wide, while many side by side and French door refrigerators are 36" wide.

We've collected the best and biggest models available today from a variety of brands to help you find the perfect model for your needs. Bonus: all but one of the models on our list happen to be under $2,000 MSRP and are Energy Star rated! Let's take a look at these five great models. They are numbered for your convenience but listed in no particular order. (And for more info on choosing a new refrigerator, check out our refrigerator buying guide!)

Available in stainless steel only at $1,899, the GE GDE25ESKSS is an Energy Star rated model with a factory-installed icemaker. If you're looking for a model that doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles, you might prefer this GE model.

Keep track of your fridge's performance easily with up-front electronic temperature controls and a digital temperature display. The multi-flow air system uses electronic sensors to check for temperature changes and turn the compressor on or off in response. A clear half-width snack drawer provides storage for cheeses, deli meats, and more, and two humidity-controlled crispers help your fresh fruits and vegetables stay fresh.

At 24.8 cubic feet of capacity, this GE model is one of the largest bottom freezer refrigerator models available. The Energy Star rating is a great feature to look for in appliances that run constantly. Check it out in person if you get the chance!

2. LG LRDCS2603S - 25.5 cu ft - $1,599 MSRP

LG has surpassed their previous large bottom freezer, the LDCS24223S, with the LG LRDCS2603S. The capacity has increased from 24.1 to 25.5 cubic feet, and is available in PrintProof stainless steel at $1,599 or black stainless steel at $1,699. It's Energy Star rated and uses a unique cooling system with a linear compressor. Basically, this type of compressor is more efficient and has fewer moving parts, so it's less likely to need repairs.

On top of that, you can use LG's SmartDiagnosis smartphone app to help troubleshoot any issues you might run into. The Smart Cooling system uses sensors and multiple airflow vents to make sure the entire refrigerator cavity stays cool. Tempered glass shelves, humidity-controlled crispers, and a Glide-N-Serve full-width pantry drawer helps your groceries stay organized and easy to find. Door Cooling+ and the Multi-Air Flow freshness system keep your food fresher for longer, using multiple vents and temperature sensors to circulate cool air.

This is the largest bottom freezer refrigerator LG has to offer in the 33" category, and it comes with a nice warranty, too: one year parts and labor, five years parts and labor on the sealed system and linear compressor, and five additional years on the linear compressor with a parts-only warranty.

3. Whirlpool WRB322DMBM - 22.1 cu ft - $1,599 MSRP

Whirlpool has been a top-selling brand in the US for years, and was THE top-selling appliance brand in the US in 2016. So it's no wonder that the Whirlpool WRB322DMBM made it to our review of the largest bottom freezer refrigerator models! This 22.1 cubic foot capacity Energy Star rated refrigerator comes in black or white starting at $1,499, stainless steel at $1,599, and black stainless steel at $1,699.

The organization options include two humidity-controlled crisper bins with FreshFlow produce preservers, a half-width Deli Drawer, and adjustable shelves and door bins you can configure for your needs. Whirlpool's Accu-Chill temperature management system quickly adapts to fluctuations in temperature, and Adaptive Defrost monitors the freezer interior and only runs a defrost cycle when necessary.

This energy-efficient bottom freezer refrigerator is a great choice for large households. It's easy to work with and helps keep your food fresh for longer. It doesn't have as large of a capacity as some of the other 33"-wide refrigerators on our list, so keep that in mind if you want as much space as possible!

4. KitchenAid KRBR102ESS - 22.1 cu ft - $2,120 MSRP

KitchenAid's contribution to the largest bottom freezer refrigerator market is the KitchenAid KRBR102ESS, a 22.1 cubic foot model available in stainless steel only. Unlike many refrigerators on the market today, it doesn't come with a factory-installed icemaker. If you prefer the good old-fashioned ice cube tray method, you might prefer it this way. An optional icemaker kit is available, sold separately, if you change your mind!

This Energy Star rated model includes a metal wine rack perfect for chilling white wines and lighter reds, plus a full-width pantry drawer. The ExtendFresh temperature management system uses a sensor in the fridge and freezer to monitor each area's humidity and temperature. The produce preservers in the humidity-controlled crisper drawers help slow down the ripening process - reducing the likelihood of overripe, inedible produce. As produce ripens, it releases ethylene gas, which tells any produce nearby to start ripening, too. The produce preservers absorb the gas to reduce the potential "domino effect" of everything ripening and going bad at once!

The cubic footage combined with the Energy Star rating make this refrigerator a great option for many households - especially if there are wine lovers involved! If you prefer your refrigerator to have a sleek look, this simple and stylish refrigerator might be a great pick for you.

  • Energy Star rated

  • ExtendFresh temperature management system with produce preservers

  • Full-width pantry drawer

  • Metal wine rack

  • Optional icemaker kit (Model no. IC13B)

  • Width: 32.625"

  • Depth: 33.75"

5. Maytag MBF2258FEZ - 22 cu ft - $1,620 MSRP

Maytag is a well-known name in the US and has some pretty distinctive commercials out there - one of their more recent ad campaigns involves showing the Maytag Man posing as a new appliance ready for duty! They're known for having some of the best repair records around. The Maytag MBF2258FEZ is made in the USA (like all Maytag appliances) and offers 22.07 cubic feet of storage space. Despite being one of the largest bottom freezer refrigerator models on the market, it won't drive up your electricity bill thanks to its Energy Star rating.

This basic model offers a lot of bang for the buck: a factory-installed icemaker, humidity-controlled FreshLock crispers, and a full-width snack drawer as well. It comes in fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, making it a great pick for households with children or people who just hate smudges!

If you're looking for a new bottom freezer refrigerator in this price range, be sure to compare this Maytag model to the Whirlpool model on our list. Maytag also offers a ten-year limited parts warranty on the compressor, the "heart" of your refrigerator!
