The LG LSXS22423S - 33", 22 cu. ft. - $1,799

The LG LSXS22423S is a 22 cubic foot side by side refrigerator that fits 33" openings. Six temperature sensors maintain an even interior temperature that you can control with precise digital temperature controls, and a door alarm plus auto door-closing hinge help you keep your food fresh and conserve energy. The fridge is available in stainless steel at $1,799.

Spill Protector tempered glass shelves in the fridge and freezer sections help make cleanup a breeze, and this side-by-side also incorporates an ice maker on the inside door to maximize storage space while still offering an ice and water dispenser option. It’s also one of the narrower side by side models available, making it one of the best side by side refrigerator options for kitchens with limited space.

This fridge also comes with a one-year parts and labor warranty plus five years parts and labor on the linear compressor and sealed system, followed by parts only on years 6-10 for the linear compressor. It’s ADA-compliant due to the side-by-side design with easily accessible freezer and doors that can open and close with no more than five pounds of pressure.

The Maytag MSS25C4MGZ - 36", 25 cu. ft. - $1,599

If you are looking for a new refrigerator that is made in America, Maytag may have the answer. The Maytag MSS25C4MGZ 25 cubic foot side-by-side refrigerator comes in fingerprint-resistant stainless steel at $1,599 and black or white at $1,399. This is another big refrigerator that maximizes value. Fingerprint-resistant stainless steel helps keep your refrigerator looking as sleek as the day you bought it, while durable frameless glass shelves help you use every inch of available storage space.

This model includes a Soft Freeze bin that provides a zone in your freezer perfect for items like ice cream, plus frozen pizza storage via an upright pocket. In the refrigerator section you'll find gallon door bins and a deli drawer for meats, cheeses, and other snacks. The factory-installed Store-N-Door icemaker gives you more shelf space in the freezer. BrightSeries LED lighting makes it easy to find whatever you're looking for.

You'll also find signature Maytag metal shelving in the refrigerator for a bold interior look, and a 10-year limited parts warranty on the compressor as well. All in all, this Maytag model offers a ton of storage capacity and convenience at a great price.

Features Comparison

  • Interior Design: Premium shelves in both the fridge and freezer sections, humidity controlled crispers, and exterior ice and water dispensers are all great features to have. The Maytag model is not Energy Star rated, using 701 kWh/year on average, while the LG model uses 606 kWh/year on average.

  • Exterior Design: LG's all-stainless-steel dispenser with extra vertical space for tall items is a great look, and if you need a 33" wide fridge then it's hard to beat this side by side. Maytag offers a more commercial feel with the towel bar handles and fingerprint resistant stainless steel. The Maytag is also available in black or white.

  • Price & Warranty: LG wins overall with a longer parts and labor warranty on the compressor, but Maytag's warranty isn't half-bad. Both models are priced similarly.

It's a lot to take in, but ultimately only you can decide! The Maytag model is three cubic feet larger than the LG model and has a slightly lower price. However, the LG model is Energy Star rated to help you keep your utility bills low, and its narrower design may be a better fit for smaller kitchens. You can also take a closer look at differences in warranty and overall styling in the store.
