Slide in gas ranges offer the ultimate combination of stovetop power and design aesthetics. With front controls and no backguard, they offer a built-in look and tend to be very fully featured. We'll dig into five great models from brands like GE, Bosch, and Samsung to help you explore your options and decide which is the best slide in gas range for you!

The following models are numbered for your convenience but are listed in no particular order. Most of these models retail for over $2,000, but keep in mind that holiday sales and package deals can save you 20%, 30%, or even 40% off of the retail price. 3 Quick Tips on Slide In Gas Ranges

  • "Front control freestanding ranges" are a new option today. These "hybrid" units can be installed at the end of a countertop if needed since the sides are factory finished. They are technically considered "front control freestanding ranges" but they are interchangeable. They are often designed to be installed in the same space that a freestanding range with a backguard once was. Some of these "hybrid" models may not overlap your counters for a built-in look that keeps food from falling between the counter and your stove. True slide-ins will also need a "filler strip" of countertop material across the back to finish off the built-in look since they aren't as deep as the standard counter. Samsung is one of the few brands offering slide-in ranges that overlap countertops.

    • Some brands offer "fit guarantees" in the case that you need to modify existing cabinetry that was designed for an old 30" freestanding range in order to fit a new 30" slide-in range.
  • Consider the stovetop burner configuration. Many of the slide-ins on our list offer five burners, often with griddle accessories. Stainless steel cooktop surfaces are also popular, although they need to be cleaned a bit differently than enameled surfaces.

  • Pay attention to convection features. There are two types of convection oven: fan convection and true convection. Fan convection incorporates a fan into the back of the oven to circulate the hot air better. You'll likely notice that your roasts are more evenly browned, and that multiple racks of cookies come out evenly done. True convection is the next step up, and incorporates a heating element with the fan. Convection is especially useful for gas ovens since they are more likely to have hot spots than electric ovens. You can read more about convection here.

    • Another oven feature: most of the models on our list offer steam clean and self clean oven options. We've found that customers who have used self clean ovens before dislike ranges that offer only steam clean, which is a lighter-duty cycle that needs to be run more often.

1. Samsung NX58H9500WS - $2,499 MSRP

First up on our reviews of the best slide in gas range models for 2020 is the Samsung NX58H9500WS. This model is available in stainless steel at $2,499 and fingerprint resistant black stainless steel at $2,599 MSRP. However, it can be found on sale for under $2,000 throughout the year depending on holiday sales and other promotions.

Samsung gives you a lot of options on the stovetop: Burner BTUs go from 5,000-18,000, and the Dual Power burner can be turned all the way down to 700 BTUs for a true low simmer. There's also an oval-shaped center burner and an integrated griddle accessory. You'll also get a custom wok grate included. The continuous grates have indicator marks to show the ideal pot placement. The cooktop is designed to overlap the countertop about 0.5" on either side for a built-in look.

This gas self clean oven comes with true convection and a built-in temperature probe and warming drawer. The sixth knob on the control panel controls the warming drawer. The oven is pretty spacious at 5.8 cubic feet. There are two standard oven racks plus one split rack designed to maximize capacity when you need to cook a lot of food at once. Some customers have had issues with temperature swings but others have not. All gas ovens are prone to temperature swings, so it's hard to say if this model swings more than is typical.

All in all, this model is definitely a great pick for stovetop cooking and should perform pretty well when it comes to baking and roasting, but it may be a better option for people who prefer to use the stove more than the oven. A budget alternative is the Samsung NX58M9420SS, retailing at $1,799, a wifi connected model with fan convection, no wok burner or temperature probe, and some other design adjustments.

  • Cooktop lip overlaps countertop

  • 5 burners, 5,000-18,000 BTUs, including an oval center burner and two-ring Dual Power Burner

  • 5.8 cu. ft. self clean oven with warming drawer

  • True convection

  • Built-in oven temperature probe

2. GE Profile PGS930SELSS - $2,699 MSRP

GE Profile is GE's line of smart premium appliances. The GE Profile PGS930SELSS is a richly featured smart slide in gas range with a lot to offer! It comes with true convection, which is not as common in gas ranges as electric, plus smart features like the option to sync the range with a compatible over the range microwave's surface light and vent.

Let's start with the stovetop: the edge-to-edge cooktop includes a powerful 21,000 BTU tri-ring burner that creates intense heat as well as a 5,000 BTU Precise Simmer burner. The central fifth burner can be set up as an oval burner to be used with GE's included grill/griddle accessory (GE claims it's "the industry's largest integrated griddle") or used as a round burner for typical pots and pans. One of the smart features in this range is the option to sync the stovetop with a compatible over the range microwave's surface light and vent.

The smart features extend to the true convection oven as well: you can start the oven, change the temperature, or a set a timer remotely with your smartphone or virtual assistant. The racks can be left in the oven during the self clean cycle, and there's also a steam clean option. The glass touch controls include specialized no preheat options for frozen pizza and frozen snacks.

Although this range has five burners, you'll notice it has six knobs - symmetrical and pleasing to the eye, yes, but why? The extra knob controls the oven light. This is a top selling option with very positive customer reviews, making it an obvious choice for one of the best slide in gas ranges of 2020.

Key Features

  • 5 burners, 5,000-21,000 BTUs, including a dual purpose oval/round burner and a tri-ring power burner

  • 5.6 cu. ft. self clean and steam clean oven with storage drawer

  • 3 self-clean oven racks

  • True European convection

  • Fit Guarantee: Up to $300 if it isn't an exact fit for an old 30" freestanding range

3. Bosch HGI8056UC - $2,299 MSRP

Bosch isn't what Americans usually think of first when it comes to stoves, but the Bosch HGI8056UC has proven to be quite popular. Bosch offers a small selection of cooking appliances with sleek, minimalist European styling. This model features heavy-duty metal knobs to complete the premium look and feel.

The stainless steel cooktop has five burners under continuous cast iron grates. While some ranges use the center fifth burner as a "keep warm" zone or a space for griddles, Bosch uses the center burner as an 18,000 BTU power burner. The simmer burner is 5,000 BTU. This model is designed to fit in a 30" freestanding range space, but check that your countertops are compatible since the cooktop overlaps the countertop slightly.

The 4.8 cubic foot oven comes with fan convection and a self clean option. The glass touch controls allow you to select from nine specialized cooking modes, including Proof Dough, Convection Bake, Convection Roast, and Pizza. Underneath the oven is a slim warming drawer.

If you want a powerful but modern-looking slide in gas range, you should definitely check out this Bosch model!

Key Features

  • Cooktop lip overlaps countertop

  • 5 burners, 5,000-18,000 BTUs

  • 4.8 cu. ft. self clean oven with warming drawer

4. LG LSG4513ST - $2,299 MSRP

Next up in our reviews of the best slide in gas ranges of 2020 is the LG LSG4513ST, retailing at $2,299 in stainless and $2,399 in black stainless (but we've seen it go on sale for under $1,700). This model has front-tilted controls for easy viewing. It has a chunkier, more solid-looking rangetop design similar to a professional gas range.

This model includes LG's ProBake true convection, which moves the gas heating element from the floor of the oven to the back wall, curving it around the fan system. Based on customer reviews, this gas range does seem to result in evenly baked goods, so it could be a good option if you like to bake but a dual fuel range is not an option. The oven offers a traditional self clean as well as LG's EasyClean 10-minute steam clean option.

On top you'll find an LG UltraHeat 18,500 BTU burner, a 5,000 BTU simmer burner, two mid-powered burners, and an oval-shaped 10,000 BTU center burner. A griddle for this oval burner is included! There are five burner control knobs, and a sixth knob for choosing the oven setting.

This model may be one of the best slide in gas range options for baking as well as stovetop cooking! If you're looking for a budget option, you may like the LG LSG4511ST, retailing at $1,799. This model has a circular center burner, so no griddle cooking here, and only offers a steam clean oven option, no self-clean.

Key Features

  • 5 burners, 5,000-18,500 BTUs, including an oval center burner with griddle accessory

  • 6.3 cu. ft. self clean and steam clean oven with storage drawer

  • ProBake true convection

  • ADA compliant

5. GE JGS760SELSS - $1,999 MSRP

GE is a top seller when it comes to slide in gas ranges lately! The GE JGS760SELSS is a great GE range with upward-facing controls retailing for $1,999 MSRP. It comes in black, white, stainless steel, GE slate, black stainless steel, and GE black slate - wow! Compare slate, black slate, and black stainless here. The touch controls aren't the glass touch type so they won't feel as high-end as glass controls, but they should still do the trick.

This model includes a nonstick griddle ("the industry's largest!") for the oval-shaped 10,000 BTU center burner. The heavy duty grates are dishwasher safe or can be put into the oven during the self clean cycle. The Power Boil 18,000 BTU burner offers lots of heat, while the 5,000 BTU simmer burner is perfect for keeping things warm but not too hot.

The oven uses fan convection, and comes with settings for convection baking and roasting. You can use a a quick steam clean cycle or the longer self clean cycle depending on the mess.

If you're looking for a slide in gas range for under $1,000, the GE JGSS66SELSS sometimes goes on sale for below $1,000 despite retailing at $1,499. It does not have convection and the stovetop burners are less powerful.

Key Features

  • 5 burners, 5,000-18,000 BTUs, including a 10,000 BTU oval center burner

  • 5.6 cu. ft. self clean and steam clean oven with storage drawer

  • Fan convection

  • Fit Guarantee: Up to $300 if it isn't an exact fit for an old 30" freestanding range

  • ADA compliant

The combined capacity of the ovens is 7.0 cubic feet, and both come with no preheat options for baking and frozen foods, and the lower oven offers true convection.
