3 Quick Tips on Slide In Gas Ranges
-
"Front control freestanding ranges" are a new option today. These "hybrid" units can be installed at the end of a countertop if needed since the sides are factory finished. They are technically considered "front control freestanding ranges," but they are interchangeable. They are often designed to be installed in the same space that a freestanding range with a backguard once was. Some of these "hybrid" models may not overlap your counters for a built-in look that keeps food from falling between the counter and your stove. True slide-ins will also need a "filler strip" of countertop material across the back to finish off the built-in look since they aren't as deep as the standard counter. Samsung is one of the few brands offering slide-in ranges that overlap countertops.
- Some brands offer "fit guarantees" in the case that you need to modify existing cabinetry that was designed for an old 30" freestanding range in order to fit a new 30" slide-in range.
-
Consider the stovetop burner configuration. Many of the slide-ins on our list offer five burners, often with griddle accessories. Stainless steel cooktop surfaces are also popular, although they need to be cleaned a bit differently than enameled surfaces.
-
Pay attention to convection features. There are two types of convection oven: fan convection and true convection. Fan convection incorporates a fan into the back of the oven to circulate the hot air better. You'll likely notice that your roasts are more evenly browned and that multiple racks of cookies come out evenly done. True convection is the next step up and incorporates a heating element with the fan. Convection is especially useful for gas ovens since they are more likely to have hot spots than electric ovens. You can read more about convection here.
- Another oven feature: most of the models on our list offer steam clean and self-clean oven options. We've found that customers who have used self-clean ovens before dislike ranges that offer only steam clean, which is a lighter-duty cycle that needs to be run more often.
1. Samsung NX60T8711SS - $2,399 MSRP
First up on our reviews of the best slide in gas range models for 2023 is the Samsung NX60T8711SS. This model was released in 2020 and is available in stainless steel at $2,399 and fingerprint resistant black stainless steel and Tuscan stainless steel at $2,499 MSRP. However, it can be found on sale for under $2,000 throughout the year depending on holiday sales and other promotions.
Like several other brands, Samsung is hopping on the Air Fry bandwagon. This range comes with an Air Fry feature in the 6.0 cubic foot convection oven, and an air fry tray is included rather than available for purchase separately. The Smart Dial for the oven is intuitive and learns from your cooking preferences. You turn the knob to select a cooking mode, then push the knob to select a mode. After you select a mode, you'll be walked through options to set a temperature and other options. The oven also comes with a temperature probe! You can also interact with your oven via Bixby, Alexa, or Google.
Up top, you'll find five burners with continuous cast iron edge to edge grates. The oval-shaped central burner can be used with a reversible cast iron griddle (included). There's also a reversible wok grate - it's a typical flat grate one way, and wok-shaped if you flip it. Burner power starts at 5,000 BTU for a simmer burner and goes up to 22,000 BTU in the Dual Ring Brass Power Burner - tied with LG for the most powerful burner in its class!
All in all, this model is definitely a great pick for stovetop cooking and has great oven features as well. It has a premium look and feel, thanks to the heavy-duty knobs that light up blue when a burner is on. A budget alternative is the Samsung NX60A6511SS, retailing at $1,149, a Wi-Fi connected model with fan convection and some other design adjustments.

2. KitchenAid KSGG700ESS - $2,599 MSRP
The KitchenAid KSGG700ESS is KitchenAid's entry-level slide-in gas range, but it has performed well with customers. This range comes with true convection, which is not as common in gas ranges as electric, plus KitchenAid's commercial-inspired design. Underneath, you'll also find a modest storage drawer.
On the stovetop, you'll find a 17,000 BTU power burner and a 5,000 BTU simmer burner, with a center fifth burner providing extra cooking options. Use the stainless knobs to control the burners, and a glass touch control screen for the oven. The oven is where this model really shines: it comes with three racks, including a max-capacity rack to boost space for roasts and other items. There's also a steam rack that allows you to easily add moisture to the oven cavity for roasts and baking. AquaLift steam cleaning provides a lighter-duty alternative to traditional self-clean ovens. It takes 20-30 minutes and should be used more often than the self-clean cycle to keep your oven looking its best.
This range comes with a one year warranty and a modest fit guarantee from KitchenAid. Placing the control panel on top, parallel to the cooktop, makes the front controls look less cluttered. Check out GE or LG if you're interested in an oval-shaped center burner that works well with griddles!
Key Features
-
5 burners, 5,000-17,000 BTUs
-
5.8 cu. ft. steam clean oven with storage drawer
-
Even-Heat True convection
-
Fit Guarantee: Up to $100 if it isn't an exact fit for an old 30" freestanding range and countertops are standard

3. Bosch HGI8056UC - $2,549 MSRP
Bosch isn't what Americans usually think of first when it comes to stoves, but the Bosch HGI8056UC has proven to be quite popular. Bosch offers a small selection of cooking appliances with sleek, minimalist European styling. This model features heavy-duty metal knobs to complete the premium look and feel.
The stainless steel cooktop has five burners under continuous cast iron grates. While some ranges use the center fifth burner as a "keep warm" zone or a space for griddles, Bosch uses the center burner as an 18,000 BTU power burner. The simmer burner is 5,000 BTU. This model is designed to fit in a 30" freestanding range space, but check that your countertops are compatible since the cooktop overlaps the countertop slightly.
The 4.8 cubic foot oven comes with fan convection and a self-clean option. The glass touch controls allow you to select from nine specialized cooking modes, including Proof Dough, Convection Bake, Convection Roast, and Pizza. Underneath the oven is a slim warming drawer.
If you want a powerful but modern-looking slide-in gas range, you should definitely check out this Bosch model!

The total oven capacity is 6.9 cubic feet, and the lower oven features cooking modes like convection bake, convection roast, and proofing. This model includes LG's ProBake true convection, which moves the gas heating element from the floor of the oven to the back wall, curving it around the fan system. The oven offers a traditional self-clean.
On top, you'll find an LG UltraHeat 22,000 BTU dual power burner, a 5,000 BTU simmer burner, two mid-powered burners, and an oval-shaped 10,000 BTU center burner. A griddle plate is included! There are five burner control knobs and a sixth knob for choosing the oven setting.

5. GE JGS760SPSS - $1,998 MSRP
GE is a top seller when it comes to slide-in gas ranges lately! Released in 2020, the GE JGS760SPSS retails for $1,998 MSRP with several great new features. The touch controls aren't the glass touch type, so they won't feel as high-end as glass controls, but they should still do the trick.
This model includes a new No Preheat Air Fry option. Frigidaire started the air fry oven craze, and other brands have followed! Read more about air fry ovens here. If you want to get the crispiness of deep frying, you can save counter space and cook more at once with an air fry oven compared to a countertop air fryer! GE also offers a nonstick griddle ("the industry's largest!") for the oval-shaped 10,000 BTU center burner. The heavy-duty grates are dishwasher safe or can be put into the oven during the self-clean cycle. The Power Boil 18,000 BTU burner offers lots of heat, while the 5,000 BTU simmer burner is perfect for keeping things warm but not too hot.
The oven uses fan convection and comes with settings for convection baking and roasting. You can use a quick steam clean cycle or the longer self-clean cycle depending on the mess.
If you're looking for a slide-in gas range for under $1,500, the GE JGSS66SELSS retails at $1,498 before holiday sales and rebates. It does not have convection, and the stovetop burners are less powerful.
