Coil Top Electric Range Reviews - Frigidaire vs GE

Posted by Todd Buehler on Nov 8, 2019 10:30 AM

Many of us grew up in a household with a coil top electric range or remember our grandparents having one. With the advent of smooth top ranges, these have become less and less popular (check out our article comparing smoothtop vs coil top ranges to learn more). However, these ranges are still the perfect fit for many buyers!

Coil top electric ranges are extremely durable and easier to maintain due to the “Plug and Play” design of the elements. Coil elements simply plug into a receptacle under the main top and rest in the drip bowl, making replacement a breeze if the element is damaged or worn out.

The Downdraft Range - Options & Alternatives

Posted by Jeff Allaire on Oct 28, 2019 3:00 PM

Downdraft ranges used to be a popular option for kitchen islands and peninsulas, but they have become less popular over the years so there are few options today. Downdraft ranges are different from traditional ranges in that they don't need separate ventilation above the stovetop. Instead, they have the ventilation mechanism built right into the range itself. This eliminates the need for an over the range microwave or vent hood to provide separate ventilation. Overall, downdraft vents are not as effective as overhead ventilation, so if you do a lot of cooking, especially with high heat, we don't recommend them.

If you are replacing a downdraft range, you might not be sure what your options are. We'll go over the downdraft ranges on the market today and offer some alternatives as well!

Amana Wall Ovens - Reviews, Features, Prices

Posted by Bob Allaire on Jul 28, 2019 9:00 AM

If you are in the market for a new wall oven and looking to spend around $1,000 or less, your options may be limited. Luckily, Amana has a few nice products that might fit the bill. Amana is now owned by well-known appliance maker Whirlpool, but the Amana brand has been around since the 1930s producing appliances made in the USA.

Amana has become Whirlpool's value line, offering high-quality products and reasonable prices. They are a lesser-known brand due to the fact that they do little in the way of national advertising like the major brands. However, their products are often perfect for consumers looking to save money on appliances and go without the name-brand label. When this article was originally written, Amana offered a 27" and a 30" single wall oven. However, the 27" model is being discontinued, so it may not be available for much longer. We've reviewed both options below.

Maytag Electric Range Reviews – Should You Consider a Maytag?

Posted by Alex Frank on May 21, 2019 9:00 AM

If you’ve been shopping for appliances for a while, you might remember the loneliest man in town, better known as the Maytag Repair Man. Starting back in 1967, Maytag ran advertisements with this bored fellow who had nothing to do because Maytag appliances never broke down. The brand became synonymous with dependability and many consumers have stood by them for all of their appliance needs. While most appliances won’t last as long as they did 50 years ago, Maytag is still committed to delivering reliable products that will stand the test of time. In fact, they put a 10-year limited parts warranty on all of their products to demonstrate that commitment.
