Maytag Electric Range Reviews - Maytag MER8800FZ Lifestyle Image

If you’ve been shopping for appliances for a while, you might remember the loneliest man in town, better known as the Maytag Repair Man. Starting back in 1967, Maytag ran advertisements with this bored fellow who had nothing to do because Maytag appliances never broke down. The brand became synonymous with dependability and many consumers have stood by them for all of their appliance needs. While most appliances won’t last as long as they did 50 years ago, Maytag is still committed to delivering reliable products that will stand the test of time. In fact, they put a 10-year limited parts warranty on all of their products to demonstrate that commitment.

While Maytag offers a full line of appliances, this article will be dedicated to Maytag electric range reviews. We will look at two freestanding ranges, a double oven range, and one slide-in model offered by the brand. All of these stoves are quality options but some are more well-featured than others. All of Maytag's electric ranges come with a 10-year warranty on the glass cooktop, the oven cavity, and the heating elements. They also all come with some form of self cleaning as well as hidden bake elements, plus five stovetop elements.

We’ll start with Maytag’s more basic model and move on down the line!

1. The Economy Model - Maytag MER6600FZ - $849

First up, we have the Maytag MER6600FZ, which retails for $849 and comes in a fingerprint resistant stainless steel finish. It is also available in white or black for $799. With a commercial-inspired towel bar handle, stainless steel knobs, and electronic touch controls, this model is stylish while still offering a great price!

This model features five burners on its shatter resistant cooktop, including a 9”/6” dual-choice element that cooks more efficiently by matching the heat to the pan size you’re using. The fifth central burner is a 100W warming burner, and the power burner is 2,500W.

The oven has a respectable 5.3 cubic foot capacity with a storage drawer underneath. Maytag includes a Delay Bake setting which allows you to place dishes in the oven and program when you’d like the baking to start. This stove features a high temperature self clean option for the oven cavity as well and a hidden 2,400W bake element to make cleaning easier.

As with all Maytag ranges, this one has a 10-year limited parts warranty which covers the glass cooktop, oven cavity, and heating elements.

Key Features:

  • High Temp Self Clean

  • 9”/6” dual-choice element

  • 5.3 cu. ft. capacity oven

2. The Next Step Up - Maytag MER8800FZ - $1,099

The next range we’ll look at has a few more high-end options and features that can help the aspiring chef cook some quality dishes. The fingerprint resistant stainless steel MER8800FZ is priced at $1,099. This model has a significantly larger 6.4 cubic foot capacity, which is among the largest in the industry for electric ranges. It also has true convection, which uses a third heating element and fan in the back of the oven to circulate heat throughout and allowing food to cook more quickly and evenly. For consumers who haven’t had experience with convection, it can be a little intimidating knowing which temperature and time to put the food in at. Maytag’s Auto Convect Conversion eliminates this issue by adjusting traditional recipes to the proper temperature and time. The Power Preheat option uses convection to warm your oven more quickly so you can get cooking ASAP!

This range is also a five burner model, but unlike its lower end counterpart, this one contains a larger 12”/6” burner for added cooking versatility. One additional feature included on this range is Maytag’s AquaLift self cleaning technology, which cleans your oven in under an hour at a low heat. You just add a bit of water in the bottom of the oven, run the cycle, and wipe it down with a wet sponge afterwards. Read our article about the pros and cons of steam cleaning for more info.

Key Features:

  • AquaLift Self Clean

  • 12”/6” dual-choice element

  • 6.4 cu. ft. capacity

  • True Convection oven with Auto-Convect Conversion

  • Oven Settings: Bake, Broil, Delay Start, Convect Bake, Convect Broil, Convect Roast, Power Preheat, Keep Warm, Control Lock, Settings

3. The Double Oven Model - Maytag MET8800FZ - $1,899

The next model in these Maytag electric range reviews is a bit different from the first two. The MET8800FZ is a double oven range retailing for $1,899, available in a stainless steel finish only. The double oven allows you to cook multiple dishes at the same time and at different temperatures. The upper oven is 2.5 cubic feet and is thermal bake only. The bottom oven is the larger of the two at 4.5 cubic feet and has true convection with Auto Convect Conversion. The ovens use high temp self cleaning and have a total capacity of 6.7 cubic feet.

The burner configuration on the ceramic cooktop of this model is a bit different than the last two models with a bridge element on the left side between the front and rear burners. You have the option of using all of these elements together if you have longer pans, such as griddles, to ensure even heating throughout.

Key Features:

  • Double oven

  • High Temp Self Clean

  • Bridge element for griddles

  • 6.7 cu. ft. total oven capacity

  • Thermal top oven / True Convection lower oven with Auto-Convect Conversion

  • Oven Settings: Delay Start, Favorite, Self Clean, Settings; Upper Oven: Bake, Broil, Keep Warm; Lower Oven: Bake, Broil, Keep Warm, Convect Bake, Convect Broil, Convect Roast

4. The Slide-in Model - Maytag MES8800FZ- $1,999

We've reached the top of the line in our Maytag electric range reviews. The last range we’ll look at is a slide-in style with front controls. The MES8800FZ retails for $1,999 and is only available in a stainless steel finish. Feature-wise, this range is very similar to the second one we looked at, the MER8800FZ. It contains a 6.4 cubic foot capacity oven, true convection, auto convect conversion, and AquaLift self-cleaning technology. One different feature on this model is that the drawer underneath the oven is actually a warming drawer that you can use to keep dishes warm while cooking other parts of a meal.

While they are typically more expensive, consumers often choose front control slide-in ranges because they create a more sleek appearance in the kitchen. If you have a nice tile backsplash, you might not want it obstructed by the rear controls of a regular freestanding range. This type of stove also usually looks better in an island so that the range is level with the rest of the countertop.

Key Features:

  • AquaLift Self Clean

  • 9”/6” dual-choice element

  • 6.4 cu. ft. capacity

  • True Convection oven with Auto-Convect Conversion

  • Oven Settings: Bake, Broil, Convect, Keep Warm, Warming Drawer On/Off, Delay Start, Power Preheat, Settings

  • Warming drawer

  • Front-control slide-in style
