How to Prevent Mold and Properly Clean Your Washer

There’s nothing worse than "fresh" laundry coming out smelling musty. Your washer works hard to clean your clothes, but it needs a little help to keep itself clean, too. Here are three tips to prevent mold and keep your cycles smooth:

  • Leave the Door Ajar: After every load, keep the door or lid slightly open to let the drum air out. This simple step prevents moisture buildup and keeps that "musty" smell away.

  • Clean the Dispenser Drawer: Every few weeks, slide out the detergent drawer and give it a quick rinse with warm water to remove any sticky residue or softener buildup.

  • Don't Overload: It’s tempting to wash everything at once, but giving your clothes room to tumble ensures a better clean and prevents strain on the motor.
