Massachusetts Tax Free Weekend is here! On Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9, you can skip the 6.25% Massachusetts sales tax on qualifying appliances at Bellingham Electric. On a big purchase, that adds up fast.

This is the biggest appliance shopping weekend of the year, so we put together this guide to help you plan ahead, pre-shop early, and know exactly what to expect. A few minutes of reading now can save you time, money, and surprises this weekend.

The Basics

Here’s what qualifies:

• The tax exemption is valid August 8 and 9 only.
• The exemption applies to items priced $2,499.99 or less per item.
• Products $2,500 and above are subject to the full tax amount.
• Packages: every product in a package must be under $2,500 each, or the full tax amount will be charged on the invoice.
• Your balance must be paid in full during the tax free weekend.

That $2,499.99 threshold covers the vast majority of refrigerators, ranges, washers, dryers, dishwashers, and more, so most shoppers save the full 6.25%.

How to Pre-Shop

Want to skip the weekend crowd? Smart move. Here’s how pre-shopping works:

1. Visit or call us before the weekend. Browse the showroom, talk through your options with our team, and get a quote for exactly what you want.
2. Leave your card information with our Sales Team. Visit us in store, or call us directly at (508) 883-7235 and our team will take your payment details on that call. We’ll process your payment early in the morning on August 8, so your tax free purchase is locked in before you’ve had your coffee.
3. We take it from there. Your invoice will be mailed or emailed to you following tax free weekend.

A couple of things to know about pre-shopping:

• Getting a quote before the weekend reserves your selections, not early delivery. Quoted products are ordered and delivered after the tax free weekend begins, same as all weekend purchases.
• Pre-shopping locks in your picks, which matters this weekend more than any other. More on that in the Stock and Backorders section below.

Shopping Online

You can absolutely shop our website during Tax Free Weekend. Here’s how it works:

• On August 8 and 9, the sales tax comes off automatically at checkout on qualifying items. No code needed.
• Orders placed on our website before August 8 are regular purchases and include sales tax as usual. The exemption cannot be applied retroactively to earlier orders.

So feel free to browse the site all week and build your wish list. Just place the order on the 8th or 9th to get the savings.

Rhode Island Customers

Our Rhode Island neighbors, we didn’t forget you! The Massachusetts tax holiday doesn’t apply to Rhode Island tax, but here’s what we’re doing and how the rules work:

• Shopping in store with delivery to RI: we’ll give you our own 6.25% discount on appliances priced $2,499.99 or less. Rhode Island sales tax (7%) still applies to your purchase, since the MA tax holiday doesn’t cover it. The discount is on us.
• Picking up your purchase at our store: your purchase is tax exempt. No additional discounts apply.
• RI customers shipping to a Massachusetts address: your purchase is tax exempt.
• Deliveries anywhere outside of Massachusetts are not eligible for the tax exemption.

Stock and Backorders

We want to be upfront with you about this one. Tax free weekend is a huge weekend for every appliance retailer in our buying group, and that means:

• Stock changes rapidly throughout the weekend.
• Arrival time estimates can’t be given before the weekend, because inventory is moving too fast to promise accurately.
• Current inventory listings do not reflect what will be available during tax free weekend.
• Backorders will occur and may be lengthy for some products.

Delivery and Installation

Here’s what to expect after your purchase:

• No deliveries are scheduled during tax free weekend itself. Our team is fully focused on getting every order right.
• We’ll call you within a week of your purchase date to go over your stock status, delivery timing, and next steps. Every in-store and quoted customer gets this call.
• Quoted products are not delivered or ordered before the tax free weekend begins.
• Installation: expect backups of two weeks or more before a product can be installed. Installers across the region book up fast after this weekend.

Payment and Financing

Payment

• The entire invoice must be paid on August 8 or 9 only.
• Paying by check? Checks must be dated August 8 or 9 only.
• Pre-shopping customers: leave your card information with us and we’ll process it early morning on the 8th.

Financing

Financing is available during tax free weekend with a few conditions:

• Financing is not available if any piece of your order is on backorder.
• Delivery must be taken within 3 weeks of purchase.
• Applications must be processed and signed in full, in person, on August 8 or 9.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I order online and still get the tax savings?

Yes! Place your order on our website on August 8 or 9 and the sales tax comes off qualifying items automatically at checkout. Orders placed before the weekend include tax as usual.

Can I pre-shop online?

You can browse the site anytime to pick your favorites, but online orders only qualify if placed on the 8th or 9th. To lock in a purchase before the weekend, visit or call us for a quote and we’ll process it the morning of the 8th.

What if my item costs $2,500 or more?

Products priced $2,500 and above are subject to the full tax amount. The exemption applies only to items priced $2,499.99 or less.

What about packages?

Every product in the package must be under $2,500 each. If any single item is $2,500 or above, it will be invoiced separately and tax will only be charged on that item.

I live in Rhode Island. What do I get?

See the Rhode Island Customers section above. Short version: in-store shoppers with RI delivery get our own 6.25% discount (RI tax still applies), and store pickups are tax exempt.

When will my appliances be delivered?

We’ll call you within a week of your purchase to go over stock status and schedule your delivery. No deliveries happen during the weekend itself, and some products may be backordered.

Can I finance my purchase?

Yes, as long as nothing in your order is backordered, you take delivery within 3 weeks, and you sign your application in full, in person, on the 8th or 9th.
