Troubleshooting Steps
The steps below will help you troubleshoot your Weber grill. (Prefer a visual chart? Jump to the “Summary Chart” section of our article!)
1. Check if there is a clicking noise when you hit the ignite button.
✅ If yes, move down to #2.
❎ If not, replace the battery and try again. Wire connections at the battery box and ignitors (located under the grill grates and heat deflectors at the beginning of the burner tube) should also be checked. Changing the batteries may be a simple fix that solves your problem!
2. For select models with ignitors: See if there is a spark at each burner tube when pressing the battery.
✅ If yes, move down to #3.
❎ If not, an ignitor would have to be ordered by the customer through the Weber parts line. You can email them at support@weberstephen.com or give them a call at 1-800-446-1071. Replacing the ignitor is a simple process, and you can look up videos on how to do it online. If you can’t figure out how to replace it, the Bellingham Electric Team can come out and replace it for you, but a labor charge will apply (for more details, see the “Bellingham Electric Grill Repair Labor Fees” section of this blog post).
3. Check to see if you’re out of propane.
✅ If yes, replace the tank and try again.
❎ If not, move down to #4.
4. Before turning the knobs, with the gas on, pay close attention to the smell and sound. First, check if you smell gas.
✅ If yes, then the fuel line most likely needs to be replaced to stop the leak. Contact Weber parts line to order the part. You can email them at support@weberstephen.com or give them a call at 1-800-446-1071. The Bellingham Electric Team can come out and replace it for you, but a labor charge will apply (for more details, see the “Bellingham Electric Grill Repair Labor Fees” section of this blog post).
❎ If not, then there is no leak. Move down to #5.
5. As the propane tank is opened, also observe if you hear the lines fill when the tank is opened.
✅If yes, move down to #6.
❎If not, replace the tank and try again.
6. If the grill still won’t light, contact Weber directly for someone to help you diagnose the problem.
They can help the customer right over the phone, even for complicated issues! Note that Weber’s warranty is for parts only and they don’t offer field service, but they have great customer service and DIY support by phone!
