Service can be one of the most important aspects of owning a modern appliance. Today's appliances are packed with unbelievable new features making them more convenient and easy to use. They are also lighter in weight and more energy efficient. Unfortunately, these improvements have come with a trade off. Many of today's appliances are also much more prone to needing service than the machines of decades gone by were. This is why service should be such an important consideration for you when you make your purchase. The service after the sale can be as important as the price in your decision about where to buy. Unfortunately, it is probably a question of when, not if, you'll need appliance service. When you do, there are a few important things you should know before you call.
When contacting a retail appliance dealer that services appliances, an independent service company, or the manufacturer about service, it is a good idea to have as much of the following information close at hand as possible:
- Brand Name of Product
- Product Type
- Model Number
- Serial Number
- Detailed Description of Problem/Symptoms
You want to be able to fully describe the problem to the tech or service manager and assist them in narrowing down the possible causes so that they are sure to bring the appropriate parts and tools to your call and they are armed with any information they need to do up front research ahead of time. If you are very industrious, you may also want to consult the online version of your owner's manual or use any integrated tech help that your appliance comes with on your mobile device prior to calling to further narrow down the problem and assist the tech with finding a solution for you.
Your goal and the goal of the repair technician should be to solve the problem on just one trip to your house. Multi trip service calls are more expensive and less convenient for the consumer and despite what you may think, they are not ideal for the service company either. Service companies know that their most profitable and highest satisfaction calls with customers are what are called "first call completes", meaning the problem is fixed on one trip. They take no joy in coming a second time either.
